There are lots of ways to support us

Donate y'cash

Keep us rolling with a one-off or regular donation

Two people working on bikes at the same time

Public donations are key for us to keep delivering the work we do. All of the donations we receive goes directly to core funding, helping pay for the buildings we operate from, keeping the lights and heating on and paying the talented staff we employ to deliver the valuable work we do and reach the people who need it the most.

You can make a one off donation, or a monthly contribution depending what suits you. Even a little each month could make all the difference.

Give your old bike a new life, and someone a new journey

We are reliant on donations to keep doing what we do. All of our bikes given away or sold in our shops are donations. All the recycled parts we have are from donated bikes and we simply couldn’t exist without them.

You can donate your bike at either site during our opening hours. We accept all bikes in all conditions. We don’t collect bikes but we do have kind volunteers who accept donations out in the community and bring them to us. Their details can be found here:

Team up with us to create real impact in your community

We always need volunteers to help in our Byker and Durham shops. We even have a Young Volunteers Club at Byker for under 18’s! Volunteers can help us in different ways: from building bikes to stripping them for parts, from helping us deliver outreach work to helping us in the shop…you could also volunteer for special events only! We don’t require a minimum amount of hours and aim to be as inclusive as possible, so everyone can feel welcome.

FAQ

We may already have an answer to your question.

  • Recyke y’bike (RyB) sells refurbished bikes. Is “refurbished” just a fancy way of saying “second-hand”?

No. Unlike most second-hand bikes, our refurbished bikes have a full safety check, worn parts are replaced, and the bike is correctly adjusted. This major pre-sale service is included in the price. A second-hand bike may appear cheaper, but really isn’t once you add in the cost of this key service. Our refurbished bikes also come with a warranty period covering any mechanical parts and bike setup, providing peace of mind for your first few months of ownership.

  • Can I learn to service my own bike?

Yes, we run popular group and 1 to 1 training sessions for anyone who just wants to know more about their bikes. If you can fix a puncture, adjust brakes, and clean and lubricate your bike you will be well on your way to becoming a more independent cyclist! You can find more info on our Training page.

  • Does RyB offer courses for aspiring bike mechanics and volunteers?

Yes, this is an essential RyB activity. We are accredited to offer Velotech courses at bronze, silver and gold levels. The courses are also open to volunteers after three months “on the job training” at RyB.

  • What is the money from bike sales used for?

RyB is a non-profit making charity relying on volunteers, bike donations, financial donations, and grants. However, our bike sales are essential to cover charitable activities, pay salaries, buy parts and cover running costs.

  • I am interested in volunteering at Recyke, what next?

There is an online application to complete over at Support.

  • Do you buy bikes?

We don’t buy bikes. All of our bikes have been donated.
